Oh mercy, it has been a super hectic few weeks. First, Cory and I reunited in New Brunswick where he'd been for the last two months! We finally got in that"summer vacation" and took a road trip through New England - amazing. Then our dear friends Melissa + Darren were married (photos to come someday) and with Cory and I both being in the wedding party, that kept us busy last weekend...busy having a fantastic time! And of course, there is the impending One of a Kind Show and the preparation and product-making which is all I can think about right now. And so, though we've had a wonderful couple of weeks, we were really ready for a nice relaxing thanksgiving dinner. Among other things, I was responsible for the appetizers.
I decided to check out some recipes by good old Martha. I ended up making Crispy Prosciutto Cups with Pear (tasty), Beet, Cheddar and Apple Tarts (very tasty although next time I want to try with goat cheese) and Bacon Jam. You heard right, Bacon Jam. Has a more gluttonous and bizarre dish ever existed? When seeing the ingredients included maple syrup and coffee I couldn't help myself...and let me say, it was pretty darn tasty! The highlight of the meal was of course, the deep fried turkey. Our family has become quite fond of cooking our bird this way - because there really is nothing quite like standing around outside drinking beer and caesars whilst cooking your turkey in a big vat of oil, watching the kids run around. The bonus of the day was actually being able to eat outside, enjoying the valley view and the changing leaves from the deck of my sister's beautiful new home. What a perfect day!
