Drawing and listening and reading

I find myself pretty tired this morning, perhaps on account of the dreary weather, however I'm enjoying the quiet illustrating time, while listening to this, a song that makes me feel a bit like I'm in a Sofia Coppola movie...(only it would be a really boring one)

I also finished a good book last night (perhaps the real reason I'm tired) called The Wife's Tale by Lori Lansens, a Canadian author whose previous books (Rush Home Road, The Girls) I really enjoyed.  If you are looking for a quick, sweet read check it out.

Covet

You know I can't resist a good online magazine and Covet Garden is no exception.  Showcasing great design in real homes, it's refreshingly Canadian with a 'local' approach, as each issue features just one well-designed home in and around Toronto, as well as the inevitably interesting home owners. It's briefer than most online magazines (which I'm ok with because honestly I should probably be doing something else anyways). Have a look through the back issues for great design inspiration!

everything is going to be ok

Here's a book on my ever-growing amazon wish list, Everything Is Going to be OK from Chronicle Books.

"This pocket-sized volume is filled with artwork bearing mottos of encouragement and affirmation. Featuring work from a diverse roster of indie artists, designers, and crafters..."

Matchbook

Another great online magazine to enjoy.  Matchbook features a little bit of everything, including some great interviews with creative talents.

Light reading

And so with the digitalization of books comes the popularizing of online magazines. While nothing can replace my love of curling up with a printed book in hand, dog eared page corners, occasional coffee stains and all - I do however, enjoy the idea of online magazines. In the home and lifestyle category, Rue and Lonny are standouts. I adore the ability to click on a product or business shown within the pages of the magazine and be on their website in a matter of seconds.  Taking a break? The latest issues of both magazines are online now...

Oldies but goodies...

A few weekends ago Cory (the ol' ball n' chain)and I went to the Christie Conservation Antique show. We didn't make any major purchases however we came home with several crates, which were on our list, as well as an awesome globe.  Cory laid claim to the man crate (a former housing for explosives of course) for his magazines beside the couch, while I have filled the other two with plants & herbs on the back deck.

Globe
My most amusing purchase was a handful of 1950's novels featuring female protagonists, most often making poor choices in light of their romantic inclinations and loose fitting blouses."Soldiers Daughters Never Cry" was a must-have due to the fantastic cover and rousing description, "In the carefree atmosphere of Vienna there followed an interlude of high comedy and devil-may-care lovemaking, ending suddenly in the onslaught of Nazi Terrorism". Amazing, right?  They just don't write em' like they used to.
