A Banner Birthday

My good friend Johannah asked me to create invitations for her adorable son Eddie's first birthday.  You may recall Eddie's announcement cards - seriously, how has it been a year already?! [cue old lady sigh and "they grow up so fast" line] Given creative colour control (my dream) I chose shades of turquoise (of course) and soft brown ink, paired with a speckled kraft envelope.

KidsPartyInvite
Joh requested banners on the invite as she had sewn some up for the party and as you can see in her photos, they turned out beautifully!  I had to include a shot of the cake she made as well - really now, how adorable is that?! Eddie is one lucky lil' guy!

purple lilacs and blue hydrangeas

The lovely Heidi and Chris wanted a soft, floral inspired invitation with a vintage feel to represent their May wedding.  The first two pages of the booklet invitation were screen-printed on an off-white stock while the RSVP page, which featured a perforated reply postcard, was printed on a flecked kraft stock. I love their colour palette of soft brown, lavender and blue - very pretty!

Sunshine and navy blue

Here's a look at Olivia and Matt's yellow and navy invitation suite.  I adore their colour scheme and was so happy with the layered screen-printing of the big yellow ranunculus. We opted to pair this flat invite with a shimmer gold envelope.

Navy and gold invitation suite

Here's a simple and sophisticated invitation suite I designed last summer for the lovely Laura and Nick.  It was a refreshing change to work with pattern as the focal point and the resulting deco inspired design was perfectly paired with metallic gold ink and a shimmer gold envelope.

A little bit of fall on a winter day

My studio has a lot of windows, which is great, however in the winter it gets pretty darn cold.  Currently bundled up in many ridiculous layers (yes, I just might have a bathrobe on over my jeans) I long for warmer months. And so I'm taking a mental trip back to this past fall and posting the wonderful Dana & Tom's falling leaves invitations. The invitation suite was screen-printed on a shimmer stock with rusty orange ink.

Note: please don't knock on my door today - it takes a while to get this bathrobe off.

Concert style

How I forgot to post this gem on the actual Flakes Paperie blog is beyond me.  Andrea & Travis are huge music lovers which definitely came across in this concert poster themed booklet invitation.  The invite itself was three pages with the final page hosting a tear-off RSVP postcard and two maps.  The gold ink accents really popped and the overall invitation is definitely amongst my favourites this season. Big thanks A&T for allowing me to design such a fun, unique invitation for you!

--Next up, a fall themed invitation suite for Dana & Tom...

Black & Red Invitation Suite

Kelly definitely wanted something that would 'pop' to her guests as she was tired of receiving run of the mill invitations (yawn!) and wanted hers to reflect a sense of vintage glamour and above all, uniqueness.  We chose an interesting format with the invite pulling out of a small envelope on the front, while the back piece, a shimmer opal stock, tore in half beneath it to double as an RSVP postcard. Thanks to Kelly for being open to something new (me trying to explain this concept with bits of scrap paper folded this way and that during our consultation was quite amusing) and cheers to her upcoming wedding day!

Program fans + celebrations on Toronto Island

As promised, here are some more images from K+M's wedding day! I've always wanted to make program fans and was thrilled with the result - they were also very necessary as it turned out to be a warm day.  As an added bonus my friend Jess discovered that a program fan makes a great dancing accessory. That's right folks, fanning while dancing = cool (in case you hadn't heard).

Of course I wish I had more blog worthy photos but check out a few of the details below including the gorgeous flowers and colourful banners made by the bride, who also expertly sewed the wedding party ties in a great range of colourful fabric - damn she's good. Kelly, I have a few unfinished curtain projects if you'd like to come over?

Despite the fact that the weather didn't co-operate (rain = a slight change of plans) we were able to enjoy the outdoors for the cocktail hour. A great bluegrass band played away and many tasty drinks + appetizers made the rounds, we couldn't have enjoyed ourselves more!  Congrats to a wonderful wedding and an amazing couple!

save the dates & silhouettes

Just this past weekend our good friends Kelly & Murray were hitched {applause}! Along with their programs and wedding invitations, I also helped with their save-the-date postcards, which featured an amazing illustration of the happy couple by Ashley Goldberg.

KMsaveDate
I loved working with their fabulous colour scheme, which was carried through to the wedding day beautifully.  Along with the adorable silhouettes and polka dots on the screen-printed invitation, my favourite part was the detachable bookmark (ribbon not shown) that served to remind guests of ferry times and the wedding website, which I must say was refreshingly hip and tastefully void of cheese-ball graphics and songs by Lonestar or Enrique Iglesias (yes, I've seen some doozies). Check back for more from K+M's wedding later this afternoon!

baby announcement

Here are the screen-printed announcements I made for my good friends Joh & Danny and their adorable - repeat adorable, lil' man Eddie. Really now, how great is that footprint on the envelope and don't even get me started on the tiny knit toque...

party on wayne.

I've been swamped with custom wedding invitations the last few months and will be looking forward to soon adding new products to my etsy shoppe which is admittedly bare at present. As soon as I get white envelopes in stock I'll be posting these screen-printed party invites!
